North Carolina Tar Heels Football Tickets Questions

Why Didn't The Miami Hurricanes Get To Play In The Championship (1988 - 1989) ...?

I'm reading about Butch Davis the head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. It says he was 11 - 1 at the end of his career with the University of Miami and they were passed over by Florida State to play in the Orange Bowl that year. They beat FSU but were jumped and I'm asking why this happened? Thanks for any answers!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butch_Davis#University_of_Miami

Um according to the Orange Bowl history Miami did play in the Orange bowl in both 1988 and 1989 year. In 1988 the beat Oklahoma 20-14, the following year they beat Nebraska
23-3.
Okay your referring to the 2000 season. The Hurricanes lost to the Washington Huskies that year, that game snapped Miami's long home game winning streak. They did beat Florida State head to head that year , and Washington also felt they too was left out of the National Championship game too for they ended thier regular season with just one loss too,
You see the confusion here, Washington 11-1 beat Miami
Miami 11-1 beat Florida State and Florida State finished 11-1 that year too. They the bowl coalition can pick and choose who they want to play in its bowl.
Just the other night I was reading some of the rules of the BCS coalition has. One of the rules is this, If a team that finishes ranked higher than its conference champion the selecting bowl can if they choose to do so can choose that higher ranking team that is not the conference champion to represent that conference in the BCS bowl providing if they feel that the higher ranked opponenet brings in higher ticket sales.
Meaning a Mississippi St (17) 8-4 somehow finds its way to the SEC championship game against Georgia (3) 11-1 and beats Goergia for the SEC title. This isnt going to make the
BCS coalition very happy. You see we are lead to believe that a SEC champion is an automatic qualifier, thats not what they trully mean, the highest ranked SEC team is the qualifier and in more years than not the highest ranked SEC team usually is the SEC champion, but uh oh , Mississippi State just tossed a monkey wrench into thier little perfect world.
Now the coalition is of course under those rules still put Georgia in the BCS and guess what, they are going to pull another SEC team that is ranked higher and isnt it conference champion as well, lets say Florida finishes at 10-2
ranked (8) in the country, well guess who gets the at large bid
you guessed it , both Georgia and Florida and guess what sucks even more, since the BCS has agreed not to permit more than two teams from any one conference the conference champion Mississippi State gets shut out of the BCS bowl. Now Geoorgia wont play for the NC title of course but because the SEC is an automatic bid for a BCS bowl, both Florida and Georgia both teams not its conference champion was ranked higher than its conference champion therefore these two teams draw higher ticket sales and they get to go to the BCS bowls.
The sport writers must of wanted the Florida St - Oklahoma match up that year for whatever reasons, both Miami and Washington as well had equal and valid arguments too.
The BCS was suppose to end that, cant wait until that rule I just read to you actually takes place, well it did , Oklahoma was ranked higher than K-State, K-State beat in the Big 12
championship- Oklahoma still played in the NC game that
year loseing to LSU badly. I hope I shed some light on the subject matter, its what the bcs people want, this is the biggest reason no playoff format using the bowls has taken place, the bowl dont want pre-determined bowls, they want the freedom to select the teams to participate in each bowl, and they want teams that'll generate high ticket sales, not always the conference champion.
